Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade (JP Style)

Sunday I headed down to Laguna to spend the day with John John. He turned 28 last Thursday and decide to give him the gift of my presence. We hung out at his house for a while. I had a chance to catch up with his roommate Chris (this is the only photo I have of them - it's from pirate day at Catalina Island)

From there John John and I hit the Irvine spectrum. We found the nicest cashmere sweater at Macy's with no price tag so we asked how much it was (in this season of sales). He said $90 but he'd give us a 65% discount. Not really sure why he gave us the 65% discount but we were happy to walk away paying $32 for a very nice cashmere sweater.

From there we picked up some snacks, a few of Johnnie's friends and headed to his Duffy. I've been on the Duffy once before with Katherine and it's quite a nice little ride. Of course the last time was Labor Day during the day. This time it was quite a bit colder. We were there to get a preview on the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade. This is its 100th anniversary. I've never been able to get down for the actual parade due to scheduling conflicts (that includes this year). So we had a little preview of the houses. I'll have to grab the shots from my camera but I did get a shot of this very subtle boat:

Newport Beach is anything but subtle as demonstrated by this display.

We motored around the harbor picking up clam chowder (dockside service of course!) and stopping at the Balboa Yacht Club for refreshments (John John is a proud member). It was cold. Very cold. But the lights were for the most part nice. I think we found 5-6 Clark Griswold houses.

A great day, exhausting but lots of fun.
