To Iraq With Love

Cue the Spar Spangled Banner...

Shanan Sabin (CMC '01) is currently serving our country in Iraq. Pardon me, he is proudly serving our country. What does an officer in Iraq want? A care package of course.

I coordinated (purchased, packed, signed card for all, and shipped) 2 little packages that were shipped to Iraq today.

Package #1: a shit load of candy. Everyone likes to tell me that all the chocolate I bought will melt but darn it all to heck I'm sending it anyways!

Note says:

Shanan,

Sending you little bits of home.

We wanted to send something more appropriate.

Like blue Curacao.

Or a purple Armani shirt.

Or porn.

Or astroglide.

Instead you get candy.

If it’s melted it’s Sarah’s fault.

If it’s not melted it’s not her fault.

We can’t say it enough.

We miss you.

We think of you often.

We hope you come home safely soon.

P.S. We had Sarah write this so that we could display a few emotions in the note without looking more effeminate than we already do.

Package #2: This one has a few more goodies included in it. Hand sanitizer (small bottles to fit in pockets), moist toilettes (is that what they're called?), ponds face wipes (if you know Shanan you know he'll probably enjoy this), 10 huge packs of gum, odd magazines (no porn), 5-6 dvd box sets courtesy of various networks, and 4-5 country cds. I think that's all. Oh! A singing birthday card.

Since the boys weren't around to sign either card I had the men in my office forge their names.

  1. woah. that is awesome! i sent over a pound of coffee from starbucks the other day. they have you write on it with a sharpie. tried to argue with the barista* that there may be soldiers out there without grinders so shouldn't starbs throw in a few grinders while they were at it? they just stared at me. so i went and grabbed the ground stuff...not as good, but didn't know what else to do. kind of like your chocolate situation. i think they can refreeze and still be delicious.

you're sweet to put that together for him.

*is that now part of my everyday language??
