Building my Bubble...

I'll finish up Easter soon but I just wanted to share a personal story from last week.

Last week I had allergy tests. I think anyone that has spent a few hours with me knows I have allergies but I've always had them. I figured they were normal seasonal allergies. I'd had the scratch test (poke the skin to see what you're allergic to) 10 years ago so it was time for another one. They put a lot of pokes on my back (couldn't count them since they were on the back) and told me I'd have to wait 15 minutes for the test to be complete. The nurse came back in after 5 minutes and said, "Oh My God I have to get the doctor!" All of a sudden the doctor comes running in along with another nurse. At this point my throat was a little dry so I asked for some water. Instead I got a shot of epinephrine and 2 nurses plus a doctor telling me not to panic. I was far from panicked. I was laughing at them telling them not to panic. The nurses kept the door propped open so they could see me and checked my vitals every 5 minutes for the next hour. The doctor returned and told me I had severe allergies and then asked me if I knew I had allergies. What is with these stupid questions? Yes, I know I have allergies that's why I'm in your office! I obviously had no idea they were so bad that I was wheezing (not coughing apparently) and required epinephrine. They finally sent me on my way but it took about 3 hours for the shaking to stop.

The next morning I returned for results. I was told that I have severe allergies to many things. I must now put strict dust mite prevention in place - plastic covers over all my bedding. Did you know that 6 weeks after you buy a brand new pillow it is completely infected with dust mites? Gross!!!!!!!! Put a HEPA filter in my bedroom, avoid freshly mown lawns, trees in bloom and the best one.... all grains. Yup all grains. I have to go on a grain free diet. As if my diet isn't restricted enough I now have to go grain free. Sigh. Totally left me bummed out last week. This will be my 3rd complete over haul of my diet and will probably be the hardest.

So that's the story. The short version :) At this point I'm resigned to live in a bubble. I'll have less bruises that way and if I get tired of walking people can push me around.

Me in my bubble (Yes, I'd be naked all the time - I'm in a bubble who cares!)
