Ice Melt

My family in Northern MN sent me these photos of the ice "coming off" the lake. Being a CA native I had no idea how the ice melted. I figured it kind of just disappeared. Apparently it gets bumped up against the sides of the lake taking down all life in its way (e.g. trees). I think the photos are gorgeous but I'm always amazed by nature (especially from my urban jungle perspective). What do you think?
