I was invited by a vendor to an "Emmy Producers Party". While my work world definitely involves the entertainment realm I do not deal with the awards shows. My agency has done advertising for some of the awards shows in the past but not currently. Here is the invite:

Now I didn't quite know what to expect. With a dress code of 'Smart Casual' I was expecting something low key, like all other advertising events I've been to. I was not expecting the FULL Hollywood party scene! I went to the Family Friendly Awards last year which was televised and it wasn't the scene this was.
I showed up in 'Smart Casual' attire and was seriously under dressed. It was one of those events where all the women had professional hair and make up done. There were a few celebrity sightings. The red carpet photos can be found here. The group I was with definitely chatted up Kathy Griffin which was just odd to me. I don't have the need to speak to a celebrity just to say I did it.
Anyways the really eventful part of the evening was getting my car back from the valet. I had placed my ear/talking piece from my iphone in the center console. This is the one they give you with the iphone, the cheap one. Since my blue tooth was stolen in the great break in of ... don't remember when that happened but it was scarring nonetheless. Where was I? Oh yes I get in my car and open the center console to grab the ear piece to start chatting away. It's not there! So I get out and explain to the team of 20 valets (no joke they had over 200 cars that night between 2 events so there were about 20 valets) that my ear piece is not there. If it was grabbed accidentally please return it. Like it was grabbed accidentally but I just needed it back so I could chat on the phone. I mean really people!
Four valets start rifling through my car looking for it and surprisingly it's not there. Yeah I'm shocked. So they ask me to pull around the corner so they can get the manager. As they go to get the manager I notice that someone went into the change pocket and took all the change plus $1. Yes $1. The manager came over and was very polite. I told him I did not want to call the police (that was offered for some reason) I just wanted the ear piece back. He said they'd pay for it if I called them on Monday. Fine no problem.
So it's now Monday and I'm wondering why the valet dudes decided to grab an ear piece, the generic one from Apple, plus $4 in loose change from my car. They're dealing with celebrities and high powered producers and I'm just a lowly smart casually dressed girl there for a party. Sigh. It's doubly frustrating because on Saturday Whole Foods forgot to ring up a $15 item. I had to correct the woman and tell her I owed more money.
Hello - karma? What's up??
That was my night.
I'm proud of you for sticking up for yourself and they probably thought you were an easy target..jerks!!!!!
ReplyDeletejerks!!! seriously... steal from the celebs... they have better stuff in the car i'm sure. and wow, good karma for sure for telling whole foods about the 15 bucks!
