Christmas Eve

While I arrived late the night before there was much to do on Christmas Eve. Mainly buy gifts for Mom, Dad, Blake, Bill and Chris. Yeah I guess I'm a last minute shopper.

As I previously mentioned it was raining, a lot. I went out for a little jog through the neighborhood first thing in the morning, followed that up with a Whole Foods run for Christmas Eve dinner (not a small trip by any means). Then I went and got my dark red nail polish touched up (totally necessary) and finished X-mas shopping. All of this was completed by 1:30PM because guests were arriving at 3PM and I had to beautify. Beautifying can be a long process if done properly. It can include naps, movies and multiple steps along the way. Beautifying recently is about a 30-45 minute process including shower time.

I was thinking of all the bloggers out there on Christmas Eve. You see I am the flower arranger, table decorater, ambiance creator of the family. They don't allow me unsupervised in the kitchen but trust me with the decor. This year I found these beautiful white spider mums that I placed in silver candle holders on the table. They were low enough to the ground that everyone could see over them. These were placed on a white table cloth and small clear glass votives were scattered throughout. I wanted white napkins to complete my winter wonderland but Mom needed some color so we added red napkins. My little munchkins arrived with snowflakes for the table (white and very sparkly). Allison (4 1/2) placed them in the middle of the table while Anna (2) and I placed a snowflake on each napkin. It was entirely Anna's idea and looked fantstic. She did lose interest half way through the table but she's 2. What can you do?

All the Pomers were there for dinner and we had a great time laughing, eating and drinking. I feel I need to share a story I told the girls. They were being fussy about eating so I mentioned to the table that Santa was probably eating his dinner right now getting ready for his big night. I then pointed out that the elves ate all their green beans to be big and strong to build ALL the toys. Guess who finished their green beans within 5 minutes? Allison!

Little Anna

After dinner we all headed to Westminster Presbyterian for Christmas Eve service which was really nice. I get to see all kinds of old friends who have literally watched me grow up. We started attending Westminster when I was a baby and my parents still attend every Sunday. One of my favorite people was there, Marge Lloyd. She's about 98 now and starting to show signs of aging but up until 2 years ago she was kicking ass and driving all the other old ladies to church. All the 80 year olds who were aging quickly were being cared for by this 94 year old woman.

Once home we finally sat down and relaxed for a minute. Then off to bed so Santa could visit.

  1. The whole Santa eats his vegetables works so much better than what I was told: "It'll put hair on your chest"!

And I'm so glad you had a lovely Christmas! :)

  2. Pretty table...that's my job too with my family, but it usually consists of the same things year after year: pine trimmings, oranges, and quince (my parents have a quince tree). Next year I am going to venture out with creativity and maybe even purchase some flowers (gasp!)
