Hap Hap Happy Birthday!!

Yesterday was Jessica Morgan Finley's birthday. For the big event we decided we'd all meet in Claremont for the big homecoming game. Her boyfriend (Dan Imdieke) played for CMS and goes every year. I hadn't been back for the big game since graduation but thought it would be a fun day.

Side note for those that aren't familiar with the CMS PP sports teams and rivalries... CMS stands for Claremont Mudd Scripps (CMC, Harvey Mudd and Scripps) and PP stands for Pomona Pitzer. It's how the colleges broke apart the sports teams and they are huge rivals. We're a D3 school whose main focus is definitely academics but there is strong affinity for our sports teams. I use the word 'we' loosely.

So homecoming is the big CMS v PP football game and it's kind of a big deal on campus. I expected that there would also be a large group of CMS football alums in attendance and I was quite right. I think they come back in part to relive their glory days.

Liz and I drove out to Claremont in the morning and had an easy trip out to Claremont. We got to campus, found parking and went into the game. We found Jess and Dan on the field watching the game. Liz and I had brought Jess a corsage to make sure everyone was aware it was her birthday (we were also attempting to embarrass her but it didn't work). We sat on the field chatting and watching all the CMS football alumns cheering on their team. Preston and Erin joined us for about an hour. Apparently the game was very exciting but we couldn't see anything sitting on the ground behind all the boys. It was very interesting watching these men who don't really show emotion hug each other and punch eah other in the ass when things went well. I guess sports events gives boys a pass to express emotions to each other. Our cheerleading squad (yes they're still there) has doubled in size (numbers not girth) but stayed the same in girth. They're not the most coordinated group of women but they do have some enthusiasm for our boys in red.

After the big game (woohoo) we went to dinner at the Press in honor of Jessican Morgan. I'm not sure if our tastes have improved, or our memory of the Press has idiolized it but the food was not that great. Really it was just kind of mediocre. The wine and company was outstanding though! Liz and I drove back home after dinner.

It was fantabulous to be able to help Jessica Morgan celebrate her birthday. I hope she had as much fun as I did.
